Every time The Washington Post runs a story about censorship of so-called "LGBTQ+" books, I post a comment that goes something like this:
"I am a Democrat, a Biden voter, a gay man, a senior citizen and grandfather to a minor teen. I am opposed to giving minors access to books or other materials in school libraries or public facilities that normalize the scientifically baseless notion that boys and girls should explore gender in order to decide whether they are actually girls or boys, respectively, or no gender at all."
Though my comment receives a few likes, it inevitably attracts critics who mount personal attacks and heap abuse on the position I have stated. If I hadn't witnessed it, I would not believe that the sort of people who defend gender identity ideology are as hostile and uncharitable as Trumpists.
I literally *never* thought I would endorse a conservative over a liberal. But now, I just can’t stomach the pedophile-flavored middle school sex ed “welcoming schools dot org” propaganda in my children’s public schools plus non-sequitur, painful illogic under the guise of “kindness” and anti-bullying. 🤮. I have reached out to some liberal congress members and senators in my area to let them know they will be losing votes if they don’t comprehend the nuance of the trans stuff (I intentionally left out the LGB because the T has just jumped on that acronym), but I typically also offer that it’s possible my message won’t even get past the young, probably “woke” staffers who field these types of incoming messages.
Please keep up the good work you are doing. I am very grateful for you.
I wrote my Oregon state representative and my state senator to ask them to oppose a bill that would have allowed minors access to so-called gender medicine. I was disheartened when one of them wrote back with the usual trans rights activist talking points, including the canards about WPATH being the gold standard for gender care and trans suicide.
They're Portland progressives and nothing is going to change their minds.
Unfortunately, Oregon Republicans have swallowed all the Trumpist KoolAid, so there isn't a hope that a Republican could ever unseat the progressive legislators who are standing in the way of rolling back the excesses of gender identity ideology.
Thank you for all you do. Sent your re-write to Maggie Astor at the NYT, with my thoughts, as a long-time reader, Dem, and parent of a trans-identifying young adult. Keep up the great work. It will be a long year - but speaking out and taking action are urgent and essential.
The NYT comment. Does anyone remember Pravda?
Enlighten me? 🙏 (I guess I could also just google Pravda lol)
Googled. 👍 propaganda newspaper under communist Russia
Yes, apparently 'Pravda' is Russian for 'Truth'.
