We are working behind the scenes on a few important projects and we want to crowdsource some questions to you, our readers, for your important insights.
First, we are seeking information regarding staffing at gender centers in the U.S. and Canada. We believe that gender centers intentionally hire staff from the LGBT+ community. For example, here’s Plume calling for applications from “queer/trans individuals”:
We’re curious: is this also the practice at other gender centers? Do the hospitals and universities that house them openly acknowledge the practice?
We can find hints of the practice from those settings, like the “pink-haired queer surgeon” Dr. Blair Peters.
If you have examples to share, please do so in the comments. For example, did you visit a gender center where staff let you know they were from the community?
If you would rather email us, we’re at LGBTcouragecoalition@gmail.com.
Second, we are creating a list of whistleblowers from medical gender centers. Here’s the list so far:
Clinicians from the UK’s Tavistock Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS).
Laura Edwards-Leeper.
Erica Anderson (read an article she co-wrote with Edwards-Leeper here).
Sara Stockton (listen to an interview with her here).
Jamie Reed.
Who else should we be thinking of?
Awesome and Good Luck!
Just to point out, the blurb from Plume doesn't even mention LGB. Because of course, in the TQ+ movement their job is just to shut up and be supportive.
Yes - thank you for undertaking this important project! Perhaps also consider extending your research to hiring at residential psychiatric programs for teens. I believe there is as strong bias or "capture" there too. Thanks for all you do.
