The LGBT Courage Coalition acknowledges and endorses Premier Danielle Smith’s plan to preserve children’s choice
We are excited to see another province and another Premier introducing policy proposals that protect the rights of parents as caregivers for their children. While Alberta takes an extra step forward to increase medical support and access-to-care for adult transgender Albertans.
The LGBT community is not a monolith, and its vocal minority does not speak on behalf of all LGBT people. For some in the community to assume they speak for everyone is homophobic, transphobic, and fosters division within the community. In fact, there’s a growing number of transgender people who are regretting their decision they made as a child and adolescent and are choosing to detransition which is expensive, slow, and emotionally tolling.
The LGBT Courage Coalition recognizes the difficulty of finding a happy medium related to transgender health. We believe Premier Danielle Smith has found a happy medium.
Not rushing children into a life-changing gender reassignment surgery will save lives of young people who are gender-questioning and the lives of transgender adults who made their choice when they were capable of making adult decisions.
LGBT Courage Coalition is looking forward to seeing these policies implemented for the benefit of our children, transgender adults, and families across Alberta and the country.

Outline of the policies:
Preserving the choices children and youth have before potentially making life-altering and often irreversible adult decisions involving the alteration of their biological sex.
Ensuring women and girls can participate safely and meaningfully in sport.
Improving access to health services for Alberta’s transgender community and social supports for children identifying as transgender and their families.
Protecting children, families, and parental involvement in the education system.
You are never going to please all of the people all of the time. I am so pleased to see that a politician can have the courage to bring some sanity to the province and I hope this spreads.
I hope you are planning your write to the National Post, which has an article today that says that LBGT groups in Alberta stand in opposition to Danielle Smith’s plan to prohibit hormones and surgery for minors.
