"While we’re busy arguing over pronouns and microaggressions, billionaires are laughing all the way to the bank." THIS. Well said!!!

Identity politics is how the billionaire class broke the progressives. The left seems to care more about sterilizing kids than protecting the American working class. It’s why Trump has won. In 2016 they betrayed Bernie and again in 20. They could have had RFK as their candidate this time but chose to lie about Biden’s health. If we don’t learn to hang together we will surely hang apart.

The left doesn't just "seem" to care more about sterilizing kids than protecting the American working class. It actually doesn't give a damn about the American working class.

Didn't presidential candidate Clinton refer to working class voters as "deplorables"? I don't think she was serious about getting elected; otherwise, she wouldn't have called half the country names.

Didn't presidential candidate Harris tell Sean O'Brien, president of the Teamsters Union, a Democratic bastion with 1.3 million members, that she didn't need their endorsement and would win with or without him? Oops. Another blooper.

Anyway, we have to sterilize the kids. Otherwise they'll kill themselves. (That's not actually true, but as propaganda it's effective.)

Have you no heart?

"While we’re busy arguing over pronouns and microaggressions, billionaires are laughing all the way to the bank. They don’t care if you’re gay, straight, left-handed, or ambidextrous—they’re too busy hoarding wealth and power while we bicker about who’s more oppressed."

Well said. Also important to remember that this is by design.

They have captured both political parties and have broken the progressive movement with identity politics

Warren is from the next little town down the road from my mother in Oklahoma. I love the Elizabeth Warren of 2008-2010 for sure, she got my vote in 2020, but wish she had run in 2016.

Try being short in this world !! I tell ya it’s frustrating some times. But just a person who is left handed I’ve learnt to adjust. It’s called jumping up to look at clothes in the store, it’s called having a stool to stand on in case I need something in the cupboard,it’s called having a tall husband, it’s called platforms. But the main big bear for me is concerts, I can never see the band if I’m on the floor, my evening results in a sore neck, however there’s is one shining light, flying is great for a short person don’t need to worry about leg room I can stretch out.

I’m just wondering whether I can start to demand more from the tall people? Where do I make a start?

I'd argue that the US has been practicing identity politics for a long, long time, but for most of that time the main benefactors were straight people, or white people, or people of a certain faith, or what have you. Only when gay people, and black people, and Jewish people asked for their share of the pie did Americans start to complain of identity politics.

That said, I certainly agree that we should worry less about micro-aggressions and more about *actual* aggression. I don't care if my neighbor flies a rainbow flag or a MAGA one; if she tries to bar me from using a library or holding down a job, then we are going to have a problem. I think we'd all do well to focus on the big picture and stop worrying about who might be a secret bigot.

I think the fine line is the one between « clubs » and « cliques ». Birds of a feather have to get together, to some extent, form clubs and other associations, and from there can try to build some political power. The problems start when the feathers start being combined with tar.

This is so wonderfully authentic and human - and pretty much how I feel (not a Lesbian but your sentiments are universal). Thank you for writing this. It's hopeful and a way forward.
