In Maine, proposed legislation LD 1735, called “An Act to Safeguard Gender Affirming Care,” will soon be reviewed and voted on by the legislature’s Judiciary Committee. LD 1735 seeks to follow in the footsteps of the California bill that prevents law enforcement from reuniting minors with their parents if they travel to the state in an attempt to receive “gender-affirming care” including puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and surgery. If passed, the bill would prevent Maine law enforcement from cooperating with police from another state to return a minor who comes to Maine for these medical interventions. This provision would apply even in cases when the minor was brought to Maine by someone else who is not a relative, leading opponents of the bill such as Courage is Habit to call it the “Transgender Trafficking Bill.”
Maine LD 1735 can be read here.
The Judiciary Committee had been scheduled to discuss the bill on Thursday, January 18th, but due to public pressure, the vote was postponed until January 25th, 2024.

Your email can be simple:
1) I am writing as a concerned (parent, therapist, doctor, etc) and I want to express my opposition to Maine LD 1735
2) I oppose this bill because I am concerned that medical interventions for gender-distressed youth are experimental, and may be causing irreversible harm to vulnerable children and adolescents
3) Add any specific reasons why this bill could be harmful to teens and their families and/or why it should not be the role of the state to separate minors from their parents.
4) While this bill is being considered in Maine, it threatens the safety of minors across the country.

Email sent: Dear Judiciary Committee members,
I am writing as a concerned parent to express my opposition to Maine LD 1735.
I oppose this bill because medical intervention of children is experimental. Many of the drugs used in these interventions are known to harm adults, and they are not reversible. Surgical interventions are also irreversible and many of them carry lifelong challenges and even complications.
Using law enforcement to separate children from their parents is abuse of the power of law enforcers to protect and serve.
This bill does nothing to help children and adolescents become strong, independent, resilient, productive adults. It does not address their need for mental and emotional support. Simply prescribing drugs and surgery that are demonstrably damaging to children's health and makes them lifelong pharmaceutical consumers is not "Safeguarding" anything.
I emailed each one of them. Thank you for posting all the contact emails !!
