We had originally created a letter to send you all wishing a happy holidays and encouragement to take a break from all things gender/medical malfeasance until 2024.
Unfortunately the break has been canceled, with two pressing actions that need your support. The first we are sending out today involves the lovely buckeye state of Ohio.
Very soon we will send out an Action Alert involving the (sneaky?) World Health Organization who will be accepting public comments only until January 8th, 2024 on a new guideline.
The new guideline is aimed at ‘increasing access and utilization of quality and respectful health services by trans and gender diverse people.” The individuals that they have announced who will serve on this guideline committee are deeply concerning. But first:
Action Alert: Call the Governor of Ohio
Last week, the Ohio State Senate passed the Save Adolescents from Experimentation (SAFE) Act. This legislation would prohibit the use of puberty blockers, cross sex hormones and surgeries for minors in state, while allowing for minors already receiving these medical interventions to continue them. The bill would also prevent natal males who identify as transgender from competing in girls and women’s sports.
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine is facing considerable pressure to veto the bill. He has until Christmas Day to sign or veto the bill.
For local news coverage of the legislation, see here.
Action Alert: Call Ohio Governor DeWine
Please call Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and tell him you support him signing the bill. He has received many calls from those opposing it. If you support the legislation, please take a few moments to call.
Contact: 614-466-3555
Your call can be simple:
I am calling as a (parent, therapist, doctor, etc) and I want to express my support for the Governor signing the SAFE Act bill
I support this bill because I am concerned that medical interventions for gender-distressed youth are experimental, and may be causing irreversible harm to vulnerable children and adolescents
You may add any other comments you would like to share about the reason you support this legislation.
It sounds like the governor may be particularly concerned about the question of suicide. If you feel confident around that topic and the research surrounding it, you may also add something in your comments about it.
Thank you for participating! If you call, please share about your experience in the comments.
I called the Ohio governor and was sent to a voicemail box. I was able to leave a message without being cut off.
Thanks for your alerts!
WHO: "Gender diverse people." LOL
