First, the Independent Council on Women’s Sports (ICON’s) Conference has concluded. You can access all three days of the conference and watch here.
If you need a teaser Helen Joyce spoke. Ms. Joyce said, “I don’t think that sport is the worst place where all of this is happening, I think the worst thing, the two very worst things is that we are sterilizing kids and putting rapists in women’s jails.”
Second, if you are looking for a little light office listening tomorrow morning. Tune in at congress.gov to the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Constitution and Limited Government 7/27/23 at 10 am EDT to the hearing titled, “The Dangers and Due Process Violations of ‘Gender-Affirming Care’ for Children.”
We are working hard on a series that we will launch next week where we will post all of the previous ‘Standards of Care’ documents and discuss the history of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health.
Now to this weeks action alert.
The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) is seeking public comment regarding their Position Statement 103 from people with lived experiences effected by gender care and mental health needs; this includes hearing from parents, families, those that are LGB, transgender, desisters, and detransitioners.
RANZCP is currently drafting a revision of Position Statement 103, “Recognising and addressing the mental health needs of people experiencing Gender Dysphoria/ Gender Incongruence”. You can find their statement regarding this review here.
RANZCP is responsible for training, examining and awarding the qualifications of psychiatrist as medical practitioners. There have already been plenty of submissions from the pro-medical affirmation lobby, they are well organized (helps when you can just take over legacy LGBT organizations).
We are asking that if you have lived experience (and you do not have to reside in Australia) please consider drafting a letter to policy@ranzcp.org and title your letter “Submission for Position Statement 103.”
A sample draft paragraph regarding Position Statement (PS) 103 for a letter has been shared which was drafted by the organization Our Duty. You would be encouraged to share your personal story as well in your letter.
If you have not been keeping up to date with some of the other happenings in Australia please check out @Bernard_Lane on twitter or at Gender Clinic News. Australia made news in late May after a large medical insurance provider has decided that they will no longer cover private practitioners who prescribe gender-affirming care to adolescents. A quote in this article discussing the insurance change stated, “we don’t think we can accurately and fairly price the risk of regret.”
Send your tips for action alerts, essays, and submissions to lgbtcouragecoalition@gmail.com
Thank you for this summary. I encourage everyone to watch the ICONS recordings - as well as Helen Joyce, the talk by Carole Hooven and the student athlete panel are very compelling. Here is a link to tomorrow's congressional hearing, for those interested: https://judiciary.house.gov/committee-activity/hearings/dangers-and-due-process-violations-gender-affirming-care
And, thanks for the "action alert". Just sent in a letter.
